Glimpses of India (10 Nights)

DELHI (2) – JAIPUR (2) - RANTHAMBORE (2) - GEEJGARH CAMP (1) BHARATPUR - FATEHPUR

DAY 01:          ARRIVE DELHI                                                                      Meals: B/ L / D

Upon your arrival in Delhi, the capital city of India you will be greeted by our representative at the International Airport. After a warm welcome, you will be escorted to your hotel where rooms are held from previous night for immediate occupancy. Check in at your hotel

After late breakfast, take a morning tour of Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India and an architectural masterpiece of Muslim faith. Then drive past Red Fort, a splendid fort made of red sandstone which was once the residence of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan and later became the landmark from where India’s independence from British Raj was announced.

This afternoon, visit Qutab Minar, a fine example of early Muslim and Afghani architecture in India. Then drive past India’s seat of power, the President House and Parliament House. Take a short photo stop at India Gate, the famous war memorial arch of India. Then visit the gold tombed Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, a live Sikh temple still in active worship. This sacred temple is highly spiritual and the holy water here is believed to have cured many followers of their illness. At this temple you get an opportunity to step inside the unique communal kitchen.

DAY 02: DRIVE TO JAIPUR (275 KMS/6 HRS)                           Meals: B/ L / D

After breakfast, drive to Jaipur, the pink hued capital city of Rajasthan. This city of erstwhile Rajput Maharajas, is built in 9 rectangular sectors symbolizing 9 divisions of the universe, as per Indian cosmology.

Upon arrival in Jaipur, check in to your hotel for 02 nights stay.

This evening, visit the Lakshmi-Narayan Temple (Birla Mandir) dedicated to the Lord Vishnu (also known as Narayan) and his consort Goddess Lakshmi to attend the evening aarti ceremony. The stunning white marble structure of the Laxmi Narayan temple looks stunning at night with sparkling lights.

Option to visit the beautiful Neemrana Fort Palace: Enroute Delhi - Jaipur, you have the option to visit the magnificent 15th century Neemrana Fort Palace, an architectural jewel spread over 25 acres of land. Cut into an hillside, this fort-palace is stepped, rising to 10 levels and commanding the most splendid views of the region. Located between Delhi and Jaipur, and set amidst green hills and villages, Neemrana Fort Palace takes you back hundreds of years to the Maharaja era of India (at extra charge).

DAY 03: DISCOVER JAIPUR                                                                       Meals: B / L / D

This morning, visit the magnificent Amber Fort - built in the 16th century, this is one of the most beautiful samples of Rajput architecture, housing a complex of palaces and pavilions, gardens and temples. A decorated elephant ride will help you ascend to this hilltop fort (elephants are subject to availability). Alternatively, you could choose to walk or drive up to the fort.

This afternoon, visit Jaipur’s City Palace complex with its various museums where you can see a beautiful collection of Mughal costumes, weapons and miniature paintings. Then visit the fascinating Jantar Mantar, the ancient astronomical observatory built by the Maharaja of Jaipur, which is the largest stone observatory in the world. Also see Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), built in the 18th century. This palace with its innumerable windows and screened balconies was especially built for the royal women to view the city and street processions from behind their ‘purdahs’ so they remain invisible to the public.

Option for Home Hosted Dinner: This evening you have the option to learn more about local lifestyle and culture of India with dinner at an Indian home. Spend time talking to your hosts and learn about their way of life. You may also opt for a unique opportunity to step inside an Indian kitchen and learn the age old art of Indian culinary delights. Your hosts will be happy to share their secret recipes and give you some handy tips about Indian cooking (at extra charge) 

DAY 04: DRIVE TO RANTHAMBORE (150 KMS/5 HRS)             Meals: B / L / D

After breakfast drive to Ranthambore, acclaimed as one of the best places in the world to photograph tigers in the wild.

Upon arrival in Ranthambore, check in at your lodge & freshen up.

Afternoon enjoy a slide show on wildlife at Ranthambore. 

DAY  05: DAY IN RANTHAMBORE                                                 Meals : B / L / D

Today, enjoy an early morning and afternoon Canter safari (accompanied by a trained naturalist) into the national park.

The Ranthambore National Park is one of the prime examples of India’s conservation program, Project Tiger. Once the hunting ground of Indian princes, this national park stands atop a 600 m high hill range, and is covered with thorn trees, scrub and grasslands. Dotted with beautiful ponds, streams, lakes and old ruins, it is the home of the tigers of Ranthambhore that have often been photographed by visitors from all over the world.

DAY 06: DRIVE TO ABHANERI - GEEJGARH (110 KMS / 3.5 HRS) Meals : B / L / D

After breakfast drive to Geejgarh camp to experience life in a small Rajasthan village.

Enroute visit Abhaneri, a small village adjoining Geejgarh, where we will see the amazing 'Baoris' (step wells) and Harshat Mata Temple. This afternoon explore the architectural beauty of the Chand Baoli step well with carved panels. 

Continue drive to Geejarh. Upon arrival check in at Geejgarh camp & freshen up

Today, enjoy a camel ride exploring the nearby villages, visiting village homes, temple, school, organic farms allowing you a unique window to observe the local village life around Geejgarh.

With dinner, chef would be happy to arrange a cooking demonstration for you, so you can learn a few tips on traditional Rajasthani cuisine.

DAY 07: DRIVE TO AGRA (160 KMS – 4 HRS)                             Meals : B / L/ D

After breakfast embark on your drive to Agra – home to the beautiful Taj Mahal. 

En route to Agra make a brief stop at Fatehpur Sikri, a beautiful blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture and the capital city of Mughal Empire in 16th century. This place was built by Emperor Akbar in gratitude of Saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, who foretold the birth of Emperor Akbar’s sons. Ever since then followers have been visiting Fatehpur Sikri to make a wish and tie a thread on the ‘Wish Pillar’, with the hope that their wishes will be fulfilled.

Upon arrival in Agra, check in at your hotel for 02 nights stay.

DAY 08: DAY IN AGRA                                                                                Meals : B / L / D

This morning witness the surreal views of the Taj Mahal by sunrise. Step inside this eternal symbol of love and appreciate the intricate designs and symmetries that rhyme as a poem written in marble. Taj Mahal is an extravagant display of love, built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.

This afternoon visit the splendid Agra fort, built in red sandstone, encapsulating magnificent palaces, halls of public and private audience and beautiful gardens.

Option to watch a classic theatre performance: This evening, you have the option to watch a live theatre performance, introducing you to the story of the Taj Mahal. Watch the spectacular performance - “Mohabbat the Taj – The saga of love”, staging the largest replica of the Taj Mahal, and presenting the legend of love that created this magnificent mausoleum (at extra charge and subject to operation of show) (Highly recommended) 

DAY 09: DRIVE to DELHI (204 KMS / 5 HRS) / FLY TO MUMBAI       Meals : B / L / D

After an early breakfast, embark on your return drive to Delhi airport to board your flight to Mumbai.

You will be met on arrival & transferred to your hotel. Check in at your hotel & freshen up.

Later enjoy a city tour of Mumbai visiting the Prince of Wales Museum, Gateway of India, Gandhi museum and the bustling Dhobi Ghats, where you will see hundreds of men and their families engaged in the family business of washing clothes (time permitting, else the sightseeing will be covered next day).

DAY 10: DAY IN MUMBAI/DEPARTURE                                               Meals : B / L / D

This morning enjoy an excursion tour to the rock cut Elephanta Caves (located 10 Km from the Gateway of India, Mumbai). A short ferry ride takes you across the harbour to the island of Elephanta for a visit to the Great Cave Temple, which dates back to 550 A.D. Elephanta’s most striking figure represents the three aspects of Shiva – the creator, preserver and destroyer (the last boat from Elephanta to Mumbai is at 1730 hrs)

Afternoon at leisure to relax & for independent activities, shopping etc.

Lunch at local restaurant

Late checkout at 2100 hrs. Late evening transfer to the airport to board your flight back home.

q  Taj Mahal is closed on Friday

q  The Core Zone of Ranthambore National Park remains closed from July to Sept & the safari will be in the periphery of the park. However due to summers, the chances of sightings will be good.

q  Elephanta Caves remains closed on Mondays.

q  Check-in, check-out time at hotels is usually 12:00 noon
